The succubus queen will stop at nothing to kill her rival, Stevie Price. Luckily, Stevie has four demon protectors who will give their lives to save her...and their bodies to feed the need that burns within her.

  Chapter 1

The sky was a brilliant blue, the water of Lake Dafi cool as I floated in it on my back. A deep feeling of relaxation washed over me as I ran my hands over the calm surface of the lake. Awareness prickled through me before Damon’s deep voice spoke beside me. “This sure beats training all day, huh?”

The corners of my mouth curled into a huge grin as I felt his strong arms snake around my waist. “You bet. This is awesome.”

Damon tugged me close to him, his poison green eyes bright and relaxed. “It’s about to become even more awesome for both of us.”

He lowered his head and I offered my mouth to him. He took it without hesitation. I could never get tired of the feel of his lips moving with mine, the way he tasted minty and woodsy at the same time. Damon’s tongue danced with mine, his hands roaming up and down my sides. I wrapped my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist, feeling him growing hard against my core as he deepened our kiss.

Suddenly, another pair of arms came around me, reaching for my nipples as a hard chest pressed up against my back. Lachlan’s marine scent and the familiar tattoos on his hands told me that it was him, toying with my nipples, alternating between rolling them gently between his nimble fingers and pinching down hard.

I gasped into Damon’s mouth, Lachlan’s raspy voice spoke in my ear, “We’re going to make you feel so good, love.”

As if Damon was determined to make good on Lach’s promise, he reached down, hooking his thumbs into my bikini bottoms. I kicked out of them obligingly, letting them float away. Lach’s fingers pulled at the strings of my top, undoing the knots that held them in place and tugging it away.

His hands went back to my breasts, his lips caressing the skin on my neck while Damon nipped at my lower lip and traced the seam of my sex with his fingers. I arched my hips, silently begging for more.

As always, Damon obliged, he slid first one finger, then another into me. A deep groan shuddered from his chest and straight into mine. “Fuck, angel. You’re so goddamn wet already.”

“We are in a lake,” I gasped against his lips, causing them to curl into a wicked grin.

“You’re going to pay for that.” He smirked, his eyes hooded with lust.

Lach licked the shell of my ear, sending shivers down my spine and making me clench around Damon’s fingers.

“I need to get in on this.” Matteo’s husky voice drifted to my ears, his lips grazing the opposite side of my neck from where Lach was. I felt his hand snake down my stomach, heard Damon’s hiss when it must’ve brushed his erection from where I was still pressed against him.

  “Fuck yeah,” Rex growled.

There were hands everywhere. Caressing every inch of my skin. I rocked into their movements, each one threatening to send me flying straight over the edge from the pure intensity of the sensations they were causing in my body.

My thighs trembled, my hands reaching blindly for something, anything to anchor me, gripping into Lach’s hair behind me and Matteo’s broad shoulder at my side.

Warm tingling started between my legs, tightness building in the base of my stomach. I moaned loudly as I approached what I knew was going to be a monumental orgasm. The stuff legends were made of.

“That’s it, baby,” Damon rasped. “Give it to us, let us hear you.”

“You feel so good, Steves,” Matteo groaned, licking a path up my neck.

“Let go for us, love,” Lach commanded, his voice breathy and low. “Now.”

Just as I was about to follow his order, I woke with a start. My heart hammering and my entire body throbbing with need. Slowly but surely, reality came tumbling back to me as I blinked, realizing I was in my own bedroom instead of back at the home I’d been building with the guys.

Devastating loss replaced desire and bled to every fiber of my being. Bone-crushing grief swept through me as I remembered that my gorgeous, strong, funny, smart demon protectors were gone.

  All of them.

  Forever.

Sobs wracked my body as I pulled up an image of each of them in turn.

Damon, with his ink-black hair and mesmerizing eyes, the biggest and toughest of the bunch of them. The dark and dangerous bad boy, so overtly sexual, and yet he could be so tender and loving when he wasn’t busy confidently taking charge.

Next came Lachlan. Ohhh, Lach. The sexy charmer who was quick with a joke and always ready with a witty comeback. His bright blue eyes were almost always lit up with amusement, but they could be soft and gentle too. Or dark and wild with lust. He loved freely and laughed generously, his devil-may-care attitude often slipping to reveal his huge heart.

Then of course there was cocky and cool Matteo. Dark and aloof, and yet I knew that he was everything but. Funny when he wanted to be and mysterious when his milk chocolate eyes had their guard up. He cared deeply and wasn’t afraid to show it, even if it was with a stolen glance or a squeeze of his strong hands.

Last, but definitely not least of my demon protectors, was Rex. Steady and solid as a rock. Quiet, brooding and intense, he was the artist of the group. Hair and eyes as dark as night, he still managed to bring light to any room he was in— reading it quickly and accurately, providing answers or stories or anything else that was needed.

Their chiseled bodies were all canvases of intricate artworks that I hadn’t been able to decipher fully yet. They protected me fiercely and made love like champs, with their whole bodies, hearts and souls.

And they were all gone. Taken from me in the ultimate bid to keep me safe, by offering their bodies to Luci, the evil succubus queen who was hell-bent on destroying me.

Tears wet my pillow as Max cuddled closer. I snuggled him and thanked my lucky stars there was at least one thing in the universe to bring me comfort. Even if it was ridiculously sad that said thing was my pet ferret.

I’d been trapped in this mental hell for the last four days since they’d been gone and I’d realized I had no clue how to find them or where to even start. A ball of emotions s
o bedraggled and inconsolable that even Max was depressed.

I couldn’t eat. I hadn’t washed my hair. I couldn’t function without them here and knowing they were safe. I also hadn’t fed my succubus need for energy, and I was slowly starving to death. In that state, it was too dangerous to so much as leave the house since I was liable to kill someone by mistake.

The guys wanted me to carry on with my life but the truth was that living it without them was terrible.

For days, I’d been alternating between being furious with them for choosing to go with Luci and just being downright heartbroken. The flames of rage that licked my veins hurt less than the shattered pieces of my broken heart, so I grabbed onto it as often as I could.

My phone buzzed on the bedside table, a notification on the screen telling me that it was a text from Brie. I ignored it, then heard banging on my door and Brie yelling from the other side. I didn’t answer her, curling into a ball of devastation on my bed instead.

“Dammit, Stevie!” Brie shouted, then I heard wood splintering and my bedroom door came crashing to the ground.

Brie, my best friend and newly minted succubus, stepped into my room. She’d always been beautiful, but enhanced as a succubus she was nothing short of breathtaking. Her long blonde hair shone like spun gold, falling all the way to her heart-shaped ass. Eyes the color of the tip of a flame burned brightly, albeit in annoyance as she fixed her gaze to mine. Her toned muscles were firmer and more delicately sculpted than ever.

It was more than clear to me that she’d been feeding, since she was full of life and vitality, looking completely in charge and like a force to be reckoned with. She held out a bag of donuts and jumped onto my bed.

“This is it, Ms. Mopey pants. No more sulking. There’s only four more days before the full moon, which means we have four more days to get your guys back,” she told me firmly, pulling two donuts from the bag and handing me one while she nibbled on another.

“I know that, Brie,” I cried. “It’s all I can think about, but what do you want me to do? We were so damn stupid to think that we had a snowball’s chance in hell of beating Luci.”

“That’s not true, Stevie. It’s not stupid. We’re going to do it,” she said, her tone matter of fact.

A peal of manic laughter fell from my lips. “How? We don’t even know how to find her, let alone how to access our full powers once we do. It was a complete pipe dream. I’ve been a succubus for all of two seconds, you even less. She’s got a thousand years on us.”

  “Well, actually, I think—”

I cut her off, my rant gaining momentum as the words kept tumbling out, following each other in a flood of devastation and fury.

“We were in la-la land to think that we could save the guys. We’re not superheroes, we’re two dumb girls wearing capes made out of towels being held together by clothespins compared to Luci. It was a sham.”

I was nearly screaming by that point, my skin as hot as lava as my broken heart galloped in my chest.

“They’re doomed. I know it and you know it t—”

“Enough!” Brie snapped, her expression suddenly fierce. Raising her palm, she aimed it at a lamp next to my bed. It exploded when a bolt of light shot from her hand.

As if I’d been pulled from a fog, I felt truly awake for the first time in days. I blinked. “What the fuck?”

“You may be the smart one, but I’m resourceful. I took a little initiative and went digging into some books,” she told me. “Now get up, take a long shower because you honestly smell like Satan’s taint, then meet me in the kitchen.”

I sat, rooted in place and in awe of the fact that Brie had taught herself a magic trick.

“Go, Stevie. I’m not kidding,” she demanded, thrusting a finger toward the bathroom door.

The tiniest sliver of hope grew in my chest, but we had no chance if I didn’t rally and learn as well. Grudgingly, I got up from the bed and headed to my shower. “Fine, I’ll take a shower, but you better be ready with answers when I’m done.”

She gave me a bright smile and a promise. “I’ll have coffee waiting too, now hop along.”

When I was done in the shower and had dressed, I went downstairs to find Brie in the living room surrounded by leather-bound books that looked older than time and two steaming mugs of coffee sitting on the table.

“What’s all this?” I asked, motioning to the library that had previously been my living room floor.

“Books,” she quipped, handing over my coffee. She’d made it strong. It was just what I needed.

“Thank you, Captain Obvious, can I get a side of sarcasm with that?”

Brie laughed, and to my surprise, a ghost of a smile curled the corners of my mouth. Brie didn’t miss it. “Hey, you are still in there! I knew it. Come out, hon, I need you. The boys need you, too.”

I blinked back tears and nodded. “Thanks for this, I really needed it to pull myself out of another full day of sleeping and depression.”

“No problem. Now, answer your earlier question, what do we do when we need to know about something?”

“Research,” I answered without hesitation. If there was anything I knew a little something about, it was research.

“Exactly, and where do we go to do it?”

“The library,” I replied dutifully. Then cast a dubious eye over the collection scattered on the floor. “But these didn’t come from the public library, did they?”

Brie shook her head, her eyes shining with excitement. “Nope. As I was scouring the city, I found a bunch of really old, really dusty libraries hidden in everything from churches, to abandoned factories and even the basement of the mall.”

  “How did you find them?”

Her eyes turned contemplative, her nose wrinkled. “I don’t know, really. A couple of days ago after I fed—”

“I knew it,” I said, my eyes widening. “You fed! God, Brie. Please tell me you didn’t hurt anyone?”

Brie rolled her eyes and gave me a pointed look. “You know I would never hurt anyone. I’ve been snacking on guys around the city, but no one’s been hurt. Or worse. I promise. I even made sure I didn’t feed in the same area twice to avoid attracting any attention over guys fainting around one particular bar or something.”

I released a shaky breath. “Okay. That’s smart, actually.”

She smirked at me. “You’re not the only smart one in this friendship. Do you want to hear the rest of the story or not?”

I nodded, my teeth sinking into my lower lip.

“Okay, so every time after I fed, it was like the world lit up around me.”

“I remember the feeling,” I admitted, a pang in my stomach as I thought back to the powerful energy that had once coursed through my veins. Just showering had sucked the life out of me to the point of exhaustion.

“Well, then, you probably also remember that, I don’t know how to describe it, ball of light maybe?”

I nodded again, waiting for her to continue.

“Right, so it was like it became a beacon or something. I felt it pulling me off into these weird directions and every time I followed the pull, I came across a library.” Her brow furrowed. “I can’t explain it any better than that.”

“You don’t have to, I get it.” I really, really did. That pull usually drew me towards the guys, but it seemed it had other uses too. I remembered how strong it was.

Brie picked up a thick volume from the pile closest to her. Thick black letters on the cover titled it De magia lucem.

“The Magic of Light,” I mumbled absently. Then I gasped and clapped my hand over my mouth when I realized that I didn’t actually know Latin, I didn’t even know that was what the language written on the cover was, but I suddenly knew it as if I’d grown up fluent in the language.

Brie’s eyes lit up as a knowing smile stretched on her lips. “Cool, right?”

  “What the hell?” I breathed.

“No clue, but the same thing happened to me. You open any one of t
hese books and whatever language they’re written in just becomes… familiar.”

  “Wow...”

“Yeah. Anyway, so this,” she held the book out to me, “is the one that I learned that trick in your bedroom from.”

I took it from her, relishing in the heavenly old-book smell that wafted up to me and turned it over in my hands, as if searching for an answer. It didn’t come. “So what now? You really think we can cover all this in four days? With enough time to save the guys left over?”

“I do, but I’m not a fast reader. If anyone can do it, it’s you. I can’t do this alone, Stevie.”

“You’re definitely not in this alone,” I told her, pulling the first pile closer. “Not anymore,” I said, that sliver of hope in my chest growing.

Maybe it was still a long shot. Maybe we’d die trying, but we had a chance, damn it. And I was going to grab on to it with both hands.

I picked up the first book and started reading.

  Chapter 2

The day passed quickly as Brie and I immersed ourselves in the treasures that were the books she’d found. I was brimming with new knowledge, anxious to start trying all the new things I was learning. The problem was that I wasn’t sure how much of it I was actually going to be able to do in my weakened state. Energy was practically seeping out from my pores, especially since I started experimenting with smaller magical spells and tricks, and I felt almost dizzy.

Brie had been encouraging me all day to go out and feed, promising that she would be right there with me, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. To feed off anyone else. I knew that there was no one who would rival my protectors, what with the enormous strength of their life forces. And the thought of doing it made me feel oily and wrong inside.
